Job Title: Custodian/Janitorial/Grounds Maintenance
Reports to: Maintenance Supervisor and Principal
Education, Certification, and Experience:
- Minimum - 8th grade education
- Experience preferred but not required
- No certification required
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintains confidentiality of sensitive information
- Maintains a pattern of prompt and regular attendance
- Check for and report signs of vandalism, theft or break-ins; takes immediate steps to reduce harm and negative impact
- Maintains and updates inventories of supplies and alerts maintenance supervisor of supplies needed
- Completes all types of general maintenance, repairs and installation projects as assigned by supervisor
- Performs grounds maintenance as assigned
- Perform various clean-up and maintenance tasks as assigned
- Perform set up, take down, and clean up for school activities such as: assembly programs,graduation, before and after ballgames, etc.
- Knowledge of the occupational hazards and corresponding safety precautions necessary for the safe performance of assigned duties; use appropriate safety precautions in all areas of job performance
- Maintains tools and equipment related to position in good working order
- Perform maintenance and general cleanliness of grounds and buildings as assigned by supervisor
- Responsible for general housekeeping in assigned areas of the building; such as but not limited to: sweep, mop, polish and wax, vacuum floors and cleans outside walkways; clean windows, woodwork, walls, furniture and equipment; clean toilet facilities and keep restrooms supplied with towels, tissue, soap and other items; collects and disposes of trash from building and grounds in appropriate receptacles; move furniture and equipment; clean water fountains daily; cleans up spills and other accidents promptly; cleans finger prints and pencil marks off all wallsdaily; cleans spots from floors and carpets daily; checks for spider webs inside and outside the building and exits; keeps vents and tops of lockers free from dust
- Participates in job-related staff development and safety training
- Is knowledgeable of school safety plan and their role in safety procedures
- Assumes responsibility for the closing of the building each day and before leaving determines that all doors and windows are secured and all lights except those left on for safety reasons are turned off, checks daily to ensure that all exit doors are open and working properly
- Unload supplies and materials and store in designated storage areas
- Complies with school, system, state and federal regulations and policies, including the PSC Codeof Ethics.
