Job Title: Head Girls Basketball Coach
Location: Calhoun County Schools
Reports To: Athletic Director / Principal
FLSA Status: Stipend / Certified Position

Job Summary

The Head Girls Basketball Coach is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing all aspects of the girls basketball program. This includes promoting academic success, sportsmanship, and skill development while ensuring compliance with Georgia High School Association (GHSA) rules and district policies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive girls basketball program for middle and/or high school levels
  • Plan and conduct daily practices, conditioning programs, and game strategies
  • Teach fundamental skills, teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship
  • Monitor and support student-athletes’ academic progress and eligibility requirements
  • Maintain compliance with GHSA rules, district policies, and school procedures
  • Supervise assistant coaches and coordinate program expectations
  • Organize and oversee tryouts, team selection, and player evaluations
  • Schedule games, practices, and transportation in collaboration with the athletic director
  • Ensure proper care, inventory, and maintenance of equipment, uniforms, and facilities
  • Promote the basketball program through community engagement and positive public relations
  • Maintain accurate records, including rosters, eligibility forms, and injury reports
  • Ensure student-athlete safety by following proper training, conditioning, and injury protocols
  • Attend required meetings, professional development, and athletic events
  • Model professionalism, ethical behavior, and leadership at all times

    Qualifications
    • Valid Georgia teaching certificate (preferred for head coach; required if teaching position is tied to role)
    • Previous coaching experience in basketball preferred
    • Knowledge of GHSA rules and regulations
    • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
    • Ability to motivate and mentor student-athletes
    • CPR/First Aid certification (or ability to obtain)

      Terms of Employment
      • Salary based on district-approved coaching supplement schedule
      • Length of contract determined by Calhoun County Schools
