Job Title:  ELA Teacher (9-12 Combination)

 

 

Reports to: High School

 

  1. Provides Instruction:  Teaches at an appropriate instructional level; provides content development to include standards based instruction and student learning-focused  content development; builds for transfer by providing initial focus, content emphasis and linking,and lesson summaries
  2. Assesses and encourages student progress by promoting student engagement and monitoring student progress; responds to student performance both adequate and inadequate; supports students
  3. Manages the learning environment:  Uses time efficiently, handles non-instructional tasks efficiently and uses instructional time appropriately; maintains effective physical setting for instruction; maintains appropriate student behavior in the classroom by monitoring  behavior and intervening when necessary
  4. Follows professional  practices consistent with school and system policies in working with students, student records, parents and colleagues
  5. Interacts in a professional manner with students and parents
  6. Is available to students and parents for conferences according to system policies
  7. Makes provisions for being available to students and parents for educational-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms
  8. Facilitates home-school communication  by such means as holding conferences, telephoning and
  9. sending written communications
  10. Maintains confidentiality  of students and student's records
  11. Works cooperatively  with school administrators, special support personnel, colleagues, and parents
  12. Complies with school, system and state administrative  regulations and Board of Education policies
  13. Conducts assigned classes at the times scheduled
  14. Enforces regulations concerning student conduct and discipline
  15. Maintains regular and punctual attendance
  16. Maintains a professional appearance as appropriate for job responsibilities
  17. Provides adequate information, plans and materials for substitute teacher
  18. Maintains accurate, complete and appropriate records and files reports promptly
  19. Complete assignments on time and in compliance with directions
  20. Attends and participates in faculty meetings and other assigned meetings and activities according to school policy; some of which may occur beyond the school day
  21. Accept a share of responsibility for extra/co-curricular activities assigned
  22. Complies with conditions as stated in contract
  23. Demonstrates accurate and up-to-date knowledge of content
  24. Implements designated Georgia Standards of Excellence
  25. Maintains lesson plans as required by school policy; prepare instructional aides  and supplemental teaching materials
  26. Assigns reasonable tasks and homework to students
  27. Maintains fair and accurate grading policies and procedure and attendance
  28. Acts in a professional manner and assumes responsibility for the total school program, its safety and good order
  29. Takes all reasonable and necessary precautions to protect students, records, equipment, materials, and facilities
  30. Assumes responsibilities prescribed by local school system and school
  31. Collaborate with peers to use and analyze date to plan individually and cooperatively  for student success and achievement
  32. Evaluate student progress on a regular basis utilizing a variety of methods
  33. Utilizes technology  in the classroom which includes but is not limited to:  interactive boards, student response systems, document cameras, record keeping systems, etc.
  34. Familiar with the school safety manual and instructions therein to protect students and othersduring natural disasters and environment threats and lockdowns
  35. Participate in professional learning opportunities and apply concept learned in the classroom to increase student learning
  36. Effectively supervise teacher assistant or paraprofessional  performance, if applicable
  37. Channel all official business through the Principal of the school to the Superintendent and other school officials
  38. Complies with school, system, state and federal regulations and policies, including the PSC Code of Ethics.

Performance of this job will be evaluated consistent with Calhoun County School System evaluation policy.
